Emergency Visit

Just got home about 15 minutes ago from an Emergency trip to the vet.  Turns out that our boys left leg has arthritis and at some point he blew his ACL.  There is nothing surgical that can be done right now for this, he has to be managed with medicine.

What started the trip to the vet is he started crying.  That was the breaking point for us.

The x-rays show a mass in his stomach.  It could be and most probably is food.  It could be something much worse.  We wont know anything until tomorrow.  The plan is to wait 6 to 8 hours and repeat x-rays.  If it moved then it’s food.  If it didn’t move then he will need to have it explored by putting a scope down to his stomach.  Then depending upon what they find, it may need to be biopsied.

They did find stool waiting to come out, which is good.  He is currently in the hospital getting fluids, medication to help calm him down.  He was going crazy once we got him to the vet.  They think that it’s a side effect from all of the medication that he is on.  Once it all wears off he should hopefully return to his normal self.

Tonight won’t be an easy night.  I’ve already got bad feelings about this, only because we have been down a similar road.  There is the cost perspective as well.  This won’t be cheap no matter which way it goes.  However, we can save a lot of money if he doesn’t need the scope.  So that is what I’m hoping for.  My partner said that he witnessed him eat more than his usual one or two kibbles of food tonight.

More news sometime tomorrow.
